Girls Inc. of Long Island: Empowering Girls to Be Strong, Smart & Bold

Girls Inc. of Long Island delivers evidence-based programs across Nassau and Suffolk Counties, empowering girls aged 9–18 to grow up strong, smart, and bold. As the region’s longest-running girls’ leadership organization, they equip young people with essential skills, mentorship, and confidence to thrive.

With nearly 1,000 girls served in the 2023–2024 school year through afterschool and summer programs, Girls Inc. achieves outcomes that speak volumes. According to their 2024 Strong, Smart & Bold Outcomes Survey:

  • 92% of participants believe they can be leaders

  • 85% report resilience in their studies

  • 74% maintain healthy eating habits

At the national level, an American Institutes for Research study found that Girls Inc. participants outperform peers on math and reading tests, exhibit stronger leadership skills, and are more likely to advocate for themselves and others.

The organization’s core programming includes hands-on STEM workshops, financial literacy, media literacy, healthy relationships education, and civic engagement initiatives—each designed to prepare girls not just for school, but for leadership in life.

Local engagement is strong: In May 2023, corporate partners at FRB Law hosted girls from Uniondale High School for a career panel and mock trial, demonstrating the power of professional mentorship.

Girls Inc. of Long Island is a model of how sustained investment in equitable, data-driven youth development can transform communities—not only by supporting individual girls but by building future leaders across Long Island.
